FLOWMETER DBE 0-32L/MIN NEUTRAL GAS
Connector: NF-Type C
The oxyacetylene torch remains a versatile and irreplaceable tool in many workshops. By combining oxygen and acetylene, it produces an extremely hot flame capable of welding, brazing, heating or cutting metal. Discover our selection of torches and equipment for flame welding, as well as our advice on choosing the right gear.
The oxyacetylene torch mixes two gases — oxygen and acetylene — in adjustable proportions. The combustion of this mixture generates a flame that can exceed 3,000 °C, sufficient to bring steel to its melting point. By adjusting the ratio of the two gases, the operator can achieve an oxidising, neutral or carburising flame depending on the task at hand: welding, brazing, heating or oxy-cutting. This versatility explains the longevity of this process. Browse all our equipment on the flame welding page.
The strength of the oxyacetylene torch lies in its versatility. It can weld thin metals, braze copper and brass (plumbing, air conditioning), heat a workpiece to bend it or free a seized assembly, and even cut steel by oxy-cutting. No other tool covers such a wide spectrum with such a modest investment. For complete units, see our oxy-acetylene welder range.
A flame welding set consists of the oxyacetylene torch itself, interchangeable nozzles depending on the task, hoses, regulators to control the pressure of each gas, and safety flashback arrestors. The quality of the torch and its nozzles determines the precision of the adjustment and the consistency of the flame. Explore our dedicated range of torches to find the model suited to your needs.
Working with pressurised gases and an intense flame requires strict precautions. Cylinders must be secured and kept away from any heat source. Flashback arrestors are essential to prevent flames from travelling back into the hoses. For the operator, goggles or a protective visor with the appropriate shade protect the eyes from the intense flame light, and welding gloves protect the hands from heat.
The oxyacetylene torch requires no electrical supply, making it invaluable on sites without power. However, for structural assemblies and modern production work, arc processes such as TIG or MIG-MAG offer greater precision and productivity. Many workshops keep both approaches, each having its own area of preference.
Mastering the oxyacetylene torch requires understanding the three flame settings. The neutral flame, balanced between oxygen and acetylene, is suitable for welding steel: it is the most common setting. The oxidising flame, richer in oxygen, is hotter and is used notably for brass and certain cuts. The carburising flame, richer in acetylene, deposits carbon and is used for specific applications such as hard-facing. Knowing how to read the flame — the length and colour of the inner cone — allows precise adjustment of the gas ratio to achieve the desired result.
The safety of a flame welding station depends on the good condition of each component. Regularly check the tightness of fittings with soapy water (never with a flame), check hoses for cracks and replace them at the slightest doubt. The regulators must be in perfect working order, and the flashback arrestors checked. Clean the nozzles of the torch with the appropriate reamers to maintain a steady flame. Well-maintained equipment, combined with proper eye protection, guarantees years of safe use. Always store oxygen and acetylene cylinders upright, secured and in a ventilated area, away from any heat source or spark. When lighting, open the acetylene first, ignite, then add oxygen to adjust the flame; when extinguishing, proceed in reverse order. These methodical steps, specific to the oxyacetylene torch, quickly become automatic habits that make all the difference between safe practice and unnecessary risk-taking.
For brazing, heating and small flame welding jobs, the oxyacetylene torch remains an indispensable and cost-effective tool. Choose a complete, certified set equipped with reliable regulators and flashback arrestors, and never skimp on eye protection. Browse our selection of torches and accessories for flame welding, and equip yourself with safe and durable equipment.
