Description
Chemical analysis %: Cu 0.10 / Mn 0.05-1.00 / Si 0.25 / Fe 0.40 / Mg 4.5-5.5 / Cr 0.05-0.20 / Zn 0.10 / Ti 0.06-0.20
Main composition: Aluminium with ~5% magnesium (Mg)
Use: Welding of 5xxx (Al-Mg) and 6xxx series aluminium alloys, when good mechanical strength and corrosion resistance are required
Advantages:
Excellent mechanical strength
Very good corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments
Good weld bead appearance
Limitations:
Lower fluidity than silicon-based alloys (such as ER4043/4047)
Increased risk of cracking on certain 6xxx series alloys sensitive to magnesium
Not recommended for service temperatures> 65 °C (susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking)
