Description
Chemical analysis %: Cu 0.30 / Mn 0.15 / Si 11.0-13.0 / Fe 0.80 / Mg 0.10 / Cr 0.05 / Zn 0.20
Main composition: Aluminum with ~12% silicon
Use: Welding and brazing of aluminum alloys, often as a replacement for ER4043 when better crack resistance is required
Advantages:
Very low tendency to hot cracking
Lower melting point → ideal for brazing
Good bead appearance and good fluidity
Limitations:
Mechanical strength slightly lower than certain other alloys
Weld bead color may differ more from the base metal (less aesthetically pleasing if unpainted)
Typical applications:
Automotive (radiators, heat exchangers)
Aeronautics
Assemblies requiring a low melting point or finer thermal control
In summary, ER4047 is a silicon-richer version than ER4043, offering better crack resistance, at the cost of a lower melting point and slightly reduced mechanical strength.
